Art Deco Frame Style

On this page, I have used a combination of sliced graphics and background colors in table cells to produce the "frame" effect. The light grey paper texture is placed as a background graphic in the appropriate table cells.

The beauty of this technique is that it will flow to fit any browser window, regardless of monitor size and resolution. Likewise, any editing and re-arranging of the actual content of the page is automatically accounted for.

The total graphical content of this page, including two background tiles, all of the frame graphics, and the buttons (with mouseover images) is 27.7K bytes.

While it is true that I've used some HTML tag attributes that aren't included in the HTML 3.2 spec, this page does meet all of the standards of a general audience web page:
  • with the exception of the JavaScript rollover effects, it functions perfectly in all 3.0 or better browsers.
  • it's extremely fast, the total size of the frame effect, the navigation buttons, and the code to put it together is less than 30K.
  • differences in font sizes from system to system are smoothly accomodated.
  • no additional plugins or specific browser versions are required.
