This commemorative illustration was created as a lasting tribute to the fine
airmen of WWII's "Mighty Eighth" Air Force as they joined up once again at the
31st reunion held in Arlington, Virginia, September 27th - October 2, 2005,
It was a banner year for attendance and priceless times for all.
Jones, spent almost a full week visiting with many air veterans that have
over the years become an extended family to him. Jones also had the privilege to
met for the first time several crewmen of the top B-17's pictured in this
illustration. Along with joining D-Day veteran and close personal friends, George
Meshko, waist gunner of "Sky Ball" and Jack Griswold, waist gunner of "I'll
Get By", pilot, Rudy Kostka, and ball turret man Frank Feteke, of "I'll Get By"
also attended this year's reunion which made for many unforgetable moments.
As the sacrifices and achievements of what is considered to be the "Greatest
Generation" are all too often overlooked and taken for granted, I feel no
greater obligation than honoring these great men and help preserve this
tremendously important heritage. I hope you feel the same and enjoy this piece!
